A Second Educational Program

When a client completes a training program or a bachelor's degree, we expect the client to use their degree to seek and obtain a job. Do not approve further care for any educational or training program unless the client qualifies for an exemption.

The client must show he or she worked in a job that requires their degree for at least 12 months and provides evidence of a special circumstance.

Possible special circumstances and verification include but are not limited to:

Special Circumstance Verification
The client can no longer perform the job the client's education trained her or him to do because of physical or mental health reasons. The client must provide a medical professional's statement. The statement must show
  • the client is no longer able to do the job the client's degree trained her or him to do and
  • the client can perform the job tasks associated with the degree the client wants to pursue.
The client cannot get a job using his or her degree because there is no demand for those skills. The client must provide a statement from a Workforce Oklahoma, a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act contracted entity, an Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, or a Department of Rehabilitation Services employee working with the client. The statement must explain that the client cannot get a job using his or her degree because there is no demand for those skills.
The new degree may increase the client's earnings potential. The client must provide proof that the starting salary for a person with the degree the client wants is more than the client's current earnings potential.

If you encounter a situation where you believe the client should receive a special circumstances exemption that is not in the above chart, email Child Care Subsidy.
