Rental Income

Rental income is the payment the owner of a piece of property receives in exchange for the use of that property. Property is not strictly land or a place to live though this is the most common type of property our clients rent.

Consider rental income as self-employment regardless of whether the client activity manages or uses labor to produce this income. This practice differs from the practice for SNAP and ABD Medicaid.

You can find the Policy for SNAP at 340:50-7-30(a)(10) and for ABD Medicaid at 317:35-5-42(c)(3)(d). There is also a Quest article on mineral rights income.
