The Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) governs the placement of children in out-of-state foster care or adoption. These placements occur when the best placement is with someone outside the child’s current state of residence. The state placing the child maintains jurisdiction over the child while the child remains in the out-of-state placement. The previous state may provide funding for child care in these situations.
Contact the appropriate ICPC worker to determine if the child is receiving funding from the other state.
