Discuss and develop a backup plan; this is an alternative childcare provider where the child can go when the usual provider is not available. The family may need an alternative provider because of illness, school holidays, or other emergencies. Identifying a backup plan ahead of time helps the client avoid work or school absences and may help him or her keep a job.
Ask the client if there are reliable people he or she trusts to keep his or her child or children. A neighbor, a relative, or friend are examples. You may also suggest the client to talk his or her employer to see if the client could work from home or work more hours after the emergency passes to make up for any missed hours.
