Declaration Provides Assistance for Infrastructure Damage Caused by March Floods
Gov. Brad Henry today announced that President Bush has approved Oklahoma’s request for a federal disaster declaration to help cities and counties hit hard by severe spring storms. The announcement means federal funding is now available to help pay for infrastructure repairs and response costs related to flooding and other severe weather that occurred March 17-23.
The 13 counties declared for public assistance are Adair, Haskell, Hughes, Latimer, Mayes, McCurtain, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Pittsburg, Pushmataha and Sequoyah.
Preliminary estimates show $5.4 million in damage, primarily to municipal and county roads and bridges.
State emergency management officials will continue to work to secure public assistance for all Oklahoma cities, towns and counties impacted by the spring storms.
