McReady Oklahoma

Wednesday, April 04, 2007

Oklahoma emergency managers have launched this year’s McReady Oklahoma campaign. Gov. Brad Henry has proclaimed April “McReady Oklahoma Family Preparedness Month” and throughout the month the statewide severe weather preparedness campaign will once again feature displays in more than 160 McDonald’s restaurants.

The McReady campaign is a public-private partnership designed to prepare families for emergencies, to increase awareness of severe weather threats and to help build prepared communities. Kick-off events were held April 2 in Tulsa at Remington Elementary and in Midwest City at Traub Elementary and the Reed Center. Additional weather safety shows will be held around the Oklahoma City metro and in many other communities. Emergency managers and officials with the National Weather Service will once again hold weather radio programming events as part of this year’s McReady program.

In addition to the displays packed with brochures and booklets, this year’s campaign includes a weather safety DVD that will be delivered to Oklahoma schools. The DVD features Oklahoma First Lady Kim Henry, KOCO Channel 5’s Head Meteorologist Rick Mitchell and OG&E’s Larry the Lineman.

In addition to the Oklahoma Emergency Management Association and Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, this year’s McReady partners include the American Red Cross, R.D. Flanagan & Associates, KOCO Channel 5 in Oklahoma City, KOTV Channel 6 in Tulsa, MOROCH, National Weather Service, OG&E Electric Services, Oklahoma Citizen Corps, Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security, Oklahoma Floodplain Managers Association, The Oklahoman, The Salvation Army and Tulsa Mayor’s Citizen Corps/Tulsa Partners, Inc.
