SH-28 closed east of Pensacola Dam in Mayes County
The project below is weather permitting:
All lanes of east and westbound SH-28 are closed east of the Pensacola Dam near Disney in Mayes County for the second phase of a bridge rehabilitation project. Traffic is detoured and drivers are urged to plan ahead for extra travel time in this area.
This is part of a $14 million project by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Grand River Dam Authority to improve three bridges on SH-28 at the Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees. The first phase of work completed in January, which repaired the deck and bridge structure of the main bridge at the dam.
This second phase is making repairs to the two spillway bridges east of the dam. The official highway detour for SH-28 will utilize SH-82 and SH-20 around this closure. The main bridge at the Pensacola Dam will remain open during this phase.
The overall project is expected to complete in summer 2021, weather permitting.
