US-81 realignment in Chickasha to be highlighted March 23

Thursday, March 16, 2017

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting on Thursday, March 23 in Chickasha to present the environmental assessment findings to the proposed improvements to US-81.

Currently, US-81 is a major trucking route causing congestion in the downtown area. As a way to relieve congestion in the area, the Department will present the preferred alternative to the public which includes plans to construct a controlled-access four-lane divided highway for the realignment of US-81. The proposed realignment will begin just north of the US-81/SH-19 West junction extending north about eight miles to the US-81/US-62 intersection. Additionally, proposed interchanges will be constructed at US-81, I-44, Country Club Road, Grand Avenue, Iowa Avenue and US-62.

The goal of this meeting is to present an update to the public on the proposal and findings from the environmental assessment. During the meeting, the proposed improvements will be shown and participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the project and ask questions after the formal presentation.
