ODOT Statement on the Death of Jarrell Gray

Jarrell Gray, Transportation Superintendent I in Delaware County for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, was tragically killed the morning of May 18, 2016.

The department is deeply saddened by this work zone tragedy, which is felt by each of his 2,400 coworkers statewide. Our thoughts are with Gray’s family, friends and fellow crew members during this difficult time. This comes as the department is in an extensive statewide work zone safety campaign.

Gray was 47 years old and had been with ODOT since December 1998.

The exact cause and details of this work zone accident are currently under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The accident occurred on SH-20 west of Jay in Delaware County, while Gray was supervising a brush removal project.

Gray is the 60th employee killed in the line of duty in the department’s history.
