Plan Ahead for I-35 Corridor Construction and Delays, Consider Alternate Route

Drivers should plan ahead for lane and ramp closures along the I-35 corridor due to highway work at the following locations, detailed below.

***Expect significant delays, especially during weekends and holidays, and plan extra travel time or use an alternate route.***

Alternate Routes

  • US-81 to the west, which runs from Fort Worth, Texas through Duncan, Chickasha, El Reno and Enid to Wichita, Kan.
  • US-69/75 to the east, which runs from Dallas, Texas to the Tulsa area and to I-44 at Big Cabin

I-35 bridge Reconstruction near Braman – Kay Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-35 is narrowed to one lane in each direction between W. Braman Rd. (mm 230) and US-177 (mm 221) in Braman through summer 2022.
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.

 About the Project

  • The nearly $11 million contract was awarded to Wildcat Construction Co., of Wichita, Kan.
  • The project includes replacement of the I-35 bridges over the Blackwell Northern Railroad between Braman Rd. and US-177.
  • Work is expected to be completed in summer 2022.

 

I-35 bridge Maintenance near Blackwell – Kay Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • Southbound I-35 will be intermittently narrowed to one lane about three miles north of SH-11 (mm 225) near Blackwell.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

 About the Project

  • The $248,000 contract was awarded to B & B Constrcution Service J.T., Inc., of Clayton, Okla.
  • The project includes preventative maintenance to the southbound I-35 bridge over Doe Creek, along with other bridges in north-central Oklahoma.
  • Once work begins, the project is expected to take about two months to complete.

 

I-35 resurfacing between TOnkawa and Blackwell – Kay Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • North and southbound I-35 will be intermittently narrowed to one lane from just south of US-60 (mm 213) near Tonkawa to just north of SH-11 (mm 223) near Blackwell. 
  • Drivers can expewct uneven driving surfaces during construction as new layers of pavement are placed.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

 About the Project

  • The $6.6 million contract was awarded to Haskell Lemon Construction, of Oklahoma City
  • The project includes nearly 11 miles of asphalt resurfacing on I-35
  • Once work begins, the project is expected to tak eabout seven months to complete.

 

I-35 bridge rehabilitation near Tonkawa – Kay Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-35 is narrowed to one lane in each direction between US-60 (mm 214) and SH-15 (mm 203) near Tonkawa through summer 2021.
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.

 About the Project

  • The nearly $2 million contract was awarded to Logos Construction Co., of Sapulpa.
  • The project includes rehabilitation of the I-35 bridges over the Salt Fork of the Arkansas River near Tonkawa. The work is focused on repairing the substructures of the bridges and bridge joints. While the work may not be visible to motorists at times, the lane closures are necessary to help protect the crews and equipment working underneath the bridge.
  • Work is expected to be completed in summer 2021.



I-35 Ramp closure for city street work at Robinson St. in Norman - Cleveland Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • The southbound I-35 off-ramp to eastbound Robinson St. (Exit 110B) is closed. The off-ramp to westboud Robinson St. remains open.
  • The southbound I-35 on-ramp from Robinson St. is closed. Drivers are detoured on Interstate Dr. south to Main St. to access I-35.
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.

 About the Project

  • The more than $5 million contract was awarded to Redlands Contracting, of Warr Acres.
  • The project includes city street intersection modification and traffic signal improvements at Crossroads Blvd. and Robinson St., just west of I-35, by the City of Norman.
  • Work is expected to be completed in summer 2021.

 

I-35 pavement rehabilitation near wayne - McClain Co.

***Expect significant congestion and very lengthy travel delays***

Impact to Traffic

  • I-35 is narrowed to one lane in each direction between SH-59 (mm 86) and two miles south of SH-59 (mm 84) near Wayne through early 2022.
  • The I-35 on- and off-ramps at SH-59 will remain open to traffic. 
  • All lanes will reopen from Oct. 8-10 and then will remain narrowed throuth the project.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

About the Project

  • The $12 million contract was awarded to IHC Scott, Inc., of Englewood, Colo.
  • The project will rehabilitate about one mile of I-35 pavement south of SH-59.
  • Work is expected to be completed in early 2022.



I-35 Pavement Reconstruction between Paoli and Pauls Valley - Garvin Co.

***Expect significant congestion and lengthy travel delays***

Impact to Traffic

  • I-35 is narrowed to one lane in each direction from about three miles south of SH-145 (mm 76) near Paoli to Airline Rd. (mm 70) in Pauls Valley through early 2022.
  • All lanes will reopen from Oct. 8-10 and then will remain narrowed through the project.
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.

About the Project

  • The $20 million contract was awarded to IHC Scott, Inc., of Englewood, Colo.
  • The project includes reconstruction of three miles of I-35 pavement between the Washita River bridge and SH-19 in Pauls Valley.
  • All work is expected to be completed in early 2022.
 
 
 

I-35 sign replacement between Davis and Thackerville - Murray/Carter/Love Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • Drivers can expect various intermittent lane and shoulder closures on north and southbound I-35 at various locations between SH-7 (mm 55) near Davis and the Texas state line (mm 1) near Thackerville through summer 2021.
  • The speed limit will be intermittently reduced at various locations when work is underway.

About the Project

  • The nearly $3 million contract was awarded to Action Safety Supply Co., of Oklahoma City.
  • The project includes replacement of outdated and faded I-35 signage at multiple locations in southern Oklahoma.
  • Work is expected to be completed in summer 2021.




I-35 bridge Reconstruction near Mariettta - Love Co.


***Expect significant congestion and very lengthy travel delays***

Impact to Traffic

  • I-35 is narrowed to one lane in each direction about four miles north of SH-153 (mm 9) between Thackerville and Marietta through late September.
  • All lanes will reopen from Oct. 8-10 and then work will resume and I-35 will be narrowed until November. Lanes will again reopen for the winter holidays and then work will resume in early 2022.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

About the Project

  • The $3 million contract awarded to C3 Construction, of Ada.
  • The project includes reconstruction of the E. 2180 Rd./Burkhart Rd. bridge over I-35.
  • Work is expected to be completed in early spring 2022.



I-35 bridge Reconstruction near Thackerville - Love Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-35 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction about three miles north of SH-153 (mm 8) near Thackerville for much of the project.
  • US-77 will remain open during construction, as well as nearby county roads.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

About the Project

  • The $32 million contract awarded to C3 Construction, of Ada.
  • The project includes reconstruction of the I-35 bridges over US-77 and the BNSF Railway north of Thackerville
  • Work is expected to take nearlly one-and-a-half years to complete.
