I-35 and SH-74 South interchange in Goldsby
Reconstruction of the I-35 and SH-74 South interchange in Goldsby will include a new roundabout at the intersection of
the northbound I-35 ramps, SH-74 South/Main St., Adkins Hill Rd. and Airport Rd.
About the Project
- This project will reconstruct the ramps at I-35 and SH-74 South (mm 104) and rehabilitate the SH-74 South bridge over I-35 in Goldsby in McClain County.
- The northbound I-35 on- and off-ramps will be lengthened and include a new roundabout, one of the first constructed by ODOT. The roundabout will help improve the safety and flow of traffic where the northbound I-35 ramps intersect with SH-74 South/Main St., Adkins Hill Rd. and Airport Rd.
- The $4.8 million contract was awarded to Allen Contracting, of Oklahoma City, in October 2019.
- Work began in February and is expected to complete in late 2020, weather permitting.
- North and southbound I-35 will be intermittently narrowed to one lane at SH-74 South (mm 104) during overnight hours nightly through 2020.
- No long-term I-35 ramp closures are planned until the I-35 ramps and bridge at Ladd Rd. just to the south are reopened. During any short-term ramp closures, drivers must use an alternate route, such as I-35 to US-77 and SH-74 in Purcell.
- The northbound I-35 on-ramp from SH-74 South is set to close in spring 2020 for up to two months.
- The northbound I-35 off-ramp to SH-74 South will remain open throughout the project.
- The I-35 on- and off-ramps will also be narrowed with flaggers directing traffic at times.
- The SH-74 South bridge over I-35 will remain open, but will be intermittently narrowed to one lane with a temporary traffic signal in place between Airport Rd. and Center Rd. from March through late 2020.
- The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.
- The new roundabout at SH-74 South/Main St., Adkin Hills Rd. and Airport Rd. will allow traffic to more safely and efficiently navigate the intersection and access the improved northbound I-35 on- and off-ramps.
- A roundabout is more cost-effective to build and maintain in the long run because it doesn’t have the long-term costs associated with operation of a traffic signal that would have to be borne by a city or county government.
- Drivers will enter the roundabout by first yielding to any traffic already in the roundabout, and then making only right turns at a low speed.
