Behavioral Health Case Management

Behavioral Health Case Management is a process that includes planned linkage, advocacy and referral assistance provided in partnership with a consumer, family members, law enforcement personnel, community agencies and other supports as defined by the consumer. This collaboration of services is to provide a continuum of care for persons that utilize services inclusive of, but are not limited to mental health, substance abuse, prevention or other services to support the consumer in self-sufficiency and community tenure. Case management actions may take place in the individual’s home, in the community, or in a facility.   An ODMHSAS Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager works with the consumer and their identified supports, in accordance with a treatment plan developed with and approved by the recipient and qualified staff to reach the consumer's goals to remain successful in their recovery.

Steps to Certification CM I - Less than 60 College credits or High School/GED with 36 months of verifiable mental health work experience
Steps to Certification CM I Upgrade - CM II Upgrade Process (If you are already a CM I and you think you qualify to be upgraded to a CM II)

Training Schedule

  • Please review the Steps to Certification
  • All enrollment prerequisites must be met prior to enrollment.
  • Enrollment is limited.
  • On-site registration is not accepted.
  • You cannot register for training until you pay the $25.00/day training fee online
  • All Payments must be made online. **ODMHSAS employees are exempt from Face to Face Training Fees.
  • A registration confirmation email will be sent once they have been enrolled in the training class.
  • If you cannot provide a Verification of Employment within six (6) months, your application will expire and
  • If you do not complete the certification process within six (6) months, your application will expire and
  • You will be required to start the entire application process all over from the beginning and
  • No refunds or credits will be given for any fees
 *Amount of classroom instruction required is dependent upon education level/classification provided with the initial application. Applicants are required to attend days as specified at the time of initial approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the new qualifications for CM II?

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a behavioral health-related field (Approved Degree List) earned from a regionally accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or an education degree earned from a regionally accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education; or a current license as a registered nurse in the State of Oklahoma with experience in behavioral health care; or current certification as an alcohol and drug counselor in Oklahoma; or a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any field earned from a regionally accredited college or university recognized by the USDE and current certification as a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP).

  • What is a CPRP? How do you apply?

  • If I’m not sure if my degree would qualify as a behavioral health-related degree, what can I do?

You can check the Approved Degree List. If your degree is not on that list, please go ahead and submit a complete application and be sure to include your official transcript and we will review each conferred degree transcript on a case by case basis.  Incomplete degrees are not considered eligible.  

  • Will the web-based training be offered thru the ODMHSAS site?

Yes. However, this will not be available until after your reapplication (existing CM IIs) or initial application (new CM II applicants) has been approved by ODMHSAS.

  • How do we get the face-to-face training?

ODMHSAS is currently setting up the training schedules. These will be posted on the ODMHSAS website. However, this will not be available until you complete the web-based training and receive approval from ODMHSAS.

  • What are CM IIIs required to do?

On July 1, 2013, CMIII’s will no longer be required to be certified through ODMHSAS. If you are a Licensed Behavioral Health Professional, under supervision for your license, or a CADC, you are no longer required to submit an application, attend training, take the exam or renew your certification.  You will now be able to provide CM services pursuant to their licensure without certification through ODMHSAS.

  • If I am currently a CM I, how do I become or upgrade to a CM II?
If you have completed a qualifying bachelor’s degree and want to be upgraded to a CM II, you will need to submit a Reapplication (REAPP) to Case Management based on Chapter 50 Standards and Criteria for Certified Behavioral Health Case Managers changes effective October 2018. All CM I’s who want to be upgraded to a CM II will need to pay the $15.00 reapplication/recertification fee.  Please follow the Steps to Certification CM I Upgrade instructions.

Certification Renewal

  • Renewal Applications will be accepted beginning January 1 each year, for all CM 1 & CM 2.
  • If you do not complete your renewal by June 30, each year, your certification is suspended and you cannot bill if your certification is under suspension.  You have until June 30, each year, to renew your certification to avoid suspension. After that June 30 date each year, the certification is considered suspended.  You will have up to (6) months (Dec. 30) to catch up and complete your renewal process.  An additional $25 late fee will be added to your $15 Renewal fee if submitted after June 30 or if your renewal is not complete and approved before June 30. This would be a total of $40 if submitted after June 30. If you do not meet all requirements for your renewal on or before the (6) month suspension (Dec. 30) on Jan. 1 your Certification is TERMINATED.   You must wait (60) days before you can re-apply to become Case Management certified again.
  • All applicants must have a User ID & Password.  DO NOT CREATE ANOTHER ACCOUNT AS THIS WILL DELAY PROCESSING OF YOUR RENEWAL.  If an applicant has not used the current system, they will need to complete the process to get a User ID & Password for access to the new system and/or make changes to their account.  If you do not remember your user name and password, please contact the help desk at 405-248-9000.
  • All applicants must sign into Access Control. Once an applicant signs in, you will see several icons.  
  • Click on the blue certificate titled Registration.  
  • Select Behavioral Health Case Management and 
  • Select the "Advance to Registration" button that you will find towards the bottom of the screen.  
  • Several tabs (i.e. Personal, Residence, Education, etc.) will appear. Applicants will need to review each tab for the accuracy of information. 
    • If the information is correct, do nothing but review the information and continue through each tab.
    • If the information is incorrect, make the required correction before continuing through each tab.
  • BHCM Certification requires all information blanks to be completely filled-in during this process. 
    Applicants must complete the blanks and supply all necessary required information or an error will occur that will not allow the applicant to continue until they correct or complete the information. Failure to do so will not allow the information/update to go through properly and the applicant will not be able to submit their BHCM renewal application.
  • After reviewing each tab, the very last tab is your CEU tab.  If you do not see your CEU tab, please contact the help desk at 405-248-9000 or Ramona Gregory by email at  Once you have access to the CEU tab, this is where you will enter your 12 hours (3 Ethics CEU's, 3 Strength's Based CEU's and 6 general CEU's) of CEU's for your 2018/2019 Renewal.  All CEU's must be dated between July 1, 2018, through June 30th, 2019 to qualify.
  • Once an applicant has reviewed and/or updated all information, they are able to submit this information. Applicants are not required to send a copy of CEU Certificates unless the Renewal Summary Form notifies them to do so.
  • After the applicant has submitted all information with the BHCM on-line renewal process, the Renewal Summary Form will be displayed on the screen.
      • ALL APPLICANTS must print off the Renewal Summary Form. 
      • IF THERE IS A NOTE THAT SAYS "You have been randomly selected to send in the documentation of all listed CEUs, you must send copies of each CEU Training indicated in with this Renewal Application" THEN DUE TO A COMPUTER GENERATED RANDOM SELECTION PROCESS, APPLICANT MUST SEND A COPY OF ALL CEU WORKSHOP CERTIFICATES and/or Official Transcript (if applicable)
      • ALL APPLICANTS must sign the Renewal Summary Form.
  • Applicants must pay the $15.00 Renewal Fee online with a debit or credit card.  Be sure to print off a copy of your receipt of payment to include in your packet.  Only current ODMHSAS agency employees are exempt from the renewal fee, but they are not exempt from late fees) 
  • Applicants must submit the Renewal Summary Form, CEU documents (if applicable), Completed Verification of Employment Form and Receipt of online payment by fax to (405) 366-2304 FORMS MUST BE FAXED TOGETHER.
  • If an applicant is no longer employed by a "qualifying" agency, their Renewal will not be approved.
  • If a Renewal is not received by the June 30, 2019 deadline, the certification is expired and cannot be used to bill for case management.
  • After that June 30, 2019 date the certification is considered suspended and the Certification must be reinstated during a period of no longer than  6 months following the suspension date or it expires permanently and cannot be renewed.  Suspended Certifications will require payment of an additional late fee of $25.00 in addition to the renewal fee of $15.00 for a total of $40.00.
  • Applicants that have been randomly selected to submit CEU documentation, must also attach their documentation for all CEU workshop trainings and/or Official Transcript (if applicable) to the Renewal Summary Form and FAX it to the 405-366-2304.
  • Once we receive your renewal application, if everything is in order, you will receive an email notifying you that your certificate is available to print out at your convenience. In order to print your certificate, all applicants must sign into Access Control. Once an applicant signs in, you will see several icons.  Click on the blue certificate titled Registration.  Select Behavioral Health Case Management.  You will see the PRINT CERTIFICATE BUTTON appear next to the Advance to Registration button.  Make sure your POP UP BLOCKER is turned off, click on Print Certificate, your certificate will appear to print off.  If your renewal is incomplete, you will receive an email notifying you of any changes that need to be made before we can approve it.  Please make the needed changes and reply to our email that you have made the necessary corrections so we can review your application again.
