How to Upgrade from In-Training Professional Sanitarian (RPSIT) and/or Environmental Specialist (RPESIT) to Full RPS/RPES

In-training registrants who have obtained their two (2) years of post-graduate work experience should apply to upgrade to Full registration as soon as possible, as in-training registrations are non-renewable.

All applications to upgrade from In-Training to Full registration must include the following:

  1. Completed Application for In-Training to Full Registration
  2. Employer letter verifying two (2) years of post-graduate experience in public/environmental health, including:
    1. Specific job duties
    2. Dates of work performed
    3. Location of work performed
    4. Printed name, title, and signature of superior/verifying individual
  3. Payment to “Oklahoma State Department of Health” or “OSDH,” including:
    1. $25.00 for RPS or RPES
    2. $50.00 if applying for both RPS and RPES

Please do not email or fax applications ahead of payment.  This does not expedite the processing time.

All items should be submitted together in a single envelope, to:

Mail (pay by check or money order)

Oklahoma State Department of Health
Sanitarian & Environmental Specialist Program
PO Box 268815
Oklahoma City, OK 73126-8815

In Person (pay by check, money order, cash, or credit/debit card)

Oklahoma State Department of Health
1000 NE 10th Street, First Floor
Oklahoma City, OK 73117

(Teller windows are open Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, and closed on weekends and state holidays.)

If any required items are missing, the applicant will be notified, usually via email, that the application cannot be processed until all required items are received.

If all required items are received, the applicant will receive a notification via email or postal mail that their application has been scheduled for the next available Advisory Council meeting date.  The letter will advise them of the time, date, and location of the meeting; however, the applicant is not required to attend the meeting or retake the exam.

The Council will review the applicant’s experience verification letter at their meeting and vote whether to approve the applicant for Full registration.  Once approved, updated registration certificates and wallet cards are generally mailed out by the following business day.  Approved applicants will maintain their existing registration number.
