WSCC is an ecological approach that is directed at the whole school, with the school in turn drawing resources and influences from the whole community serving to address the needs of the whole child. WSCC was developed by merging the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) Coordinated School Health model and the ASCD Whole Child Framework. The WSCC model increases alignment and integration between health and education to improve each child’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.

The Oklahoma Health Improvement Plan (OHIP) 2020 Coordinated School Health (CSH) Workgroup

Health education was included in the OHIP as a health system to improve the following flagship issues in Oklahoma: Tobacco Use, Obesity, Child Health, and Behavioral Health. Coordinated School Health is one of three branches of the health education system. The CSH Workgroup is comprised of numerous state and local community partners who support the efforts of the state health improvement plan. The workgroup has aligned its efforts with the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model.
