Oklahomans can receive COVID-19 test results via automated text messages beginning Nov. 30
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) today announced the soft launch of the MTX Case Investigation application, an automated text message system that will provide COVID-19 test results to Oklahomans.
Beginning on Nov. 30, Oklahomans can opt-in to receive negative test result notifications via SMS/text message. Those who receive positive test results should expect to receive a phone call with their test results.
The MTX application will provide electronic laboratory reports from NextCare and Access Medical to Oklahomans, enhancing the state’s ability to provide efficient, effective case investigation to slow the spread of COVID-19.
“We’re working through this pandemic to make it easier and quicker for Oklahomans to receive their test results, and the MTX system should help us accomplish this,” said Oklahoma State Department of Health Deputy Commissioner Travis Kirkpatrick. “The faster we can determine and communicate results, the more we can prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
OSDH did send some automated text messages prior to the launch date, on Nov. 24, as part of a test. Anyone who received a text message from OSDH prior to Nov. 30 should check with their lab regarding test results.
Healthcare professionals emphasize that even if you receive a negative test result via text, it doesn’t necessarily mean you can eschew the CDC-recommended quarantine period if you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19.
“The CDC recommends that even if you test negative for COVID-19 or feel healthy, you should still quarantine after your last contact with someone who has the virus,” said Kirkpatrick. “Symptoms can appear for 2-14 days after exposure, and some infected people never develop symptoms but are still contagious, so it’s important to stick to that quarantine period to keep your family, friends and neighbors safe.”
Kirkpatrick also urged Oklahomans to continue following the three W’s to prevent the spread of COVID-19: wear a mask, wash your hands frequently and watch your distance (stay six feet apart).
