Oklahoma Turning Point Conference & Policy Day Set for Aug. 21

Friday, July 26, 2019
Community leaders, public health professionals, advocates and members of the public are invited to the 22nd Annual Turning Point Conference and 11th Annual Policy Day hosted by the Oklahoma Turning Point Council (OTPC). The event is Aug. 21 at the Moore Norman Technology Center, South Penn Campus, in Oklahoma City.
The conference will highlight best practices for effective community coalitions and strategic partnerships, offer practical tips for communities to create a culture of health, and engage the community in state and local advocacy efforts.
Featured speakers will be Dr. Brian King of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who will be discussing best practices for tobacco prevention and control; and Dr. Nathan Mellor who is the CEO of C3 Brands and the president of Strata Leadership, LLC in Oklahoma City. He will provide a positive call to action while exploring the value of persistence and the importance of community. Interim Commissioner of Health Tom Bates will provide a conference welcome.
Conference breakout sessions will cover topics such as trauma informed care, increasing access to care, creating a safe space for victims of violence and electronic tobacco products.
“We are excited to bring speakers who will provide expertise and insight from their respective fields,” said OTPC Nikkiey Morton. “The conference provides a venue to engage statewide leaders, partners and community members to effect policy, systems and environmental change to improve both state and community health.”
All attendees must register online by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.14 as onsite registration is not available. Registration is $90 and includes lunch.
