Two programs funded by the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) have been recognized as Blue Ribbon Affiliates by the Parents as Teachers National Center for top performance in the home visitation program. The programs being recognized are facilitated by the Oklahoma City Public Schools and Bethany Public Schools.
The OSDH Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visitation (MIECHV) program funds a number of Parents as Teachers programs in the state. Parents as Teachers is an evidence-based model delivering personal visits with families, developmental screenings for children, educational information and support for parents and caregivers with young children. Programs which receive Blue Ribbon endorsement have demonstrated accountability, effectiveness and credibility in the field of parent education.
“We are proud of the hard work and dedication of the professionals working through Parents as Teachers in Oklahoma City and Bethany schools,” said Suzy Gibson, OSDH Program Manager of PAT. “This program provides support that makes a difference in a child’s health, development and ability to learn.
The grant awarded to Oklahoma City Public Schools totaled $475,000, and $101,250 was awarded to Bethany Public Schools. The program in Oklahoma City has been an affiliate for more than 20 years, and the Bethany affiliate has been active in the community for 19 years.
