In an effort to help combat the growing number of flu cases in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is providing 650 doses of flu vaccine to the Oklahoma City-County Health Department (OCCHD) for this weekend’s Fight the Flu Drive-Thru immunization effort at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.
Members of the OSDH Immunization Service will be delivering the vaccine to the OCCHD warehouse on the north side of their 2700 NE 63rd St. location on Friday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. The vaccine will be used this Saturday at the Remington Park event, which begins at 11 a.m. in parking lot C-3.
“Our staff stands ready to provide additional vaccine on Saturday if there is a need,” said OSDH Director of Immunization Service Lori Linstead.
More than 2,500 Oklahomans have been hospitalized and the OSDH has confirmed 92 deaths so far this flu season, which began in September 2017 and is not expected to end until late spring.
“It is not too late to protect yourself from the flu,” said State Epidemiologist Dr. Kristy Bradley. “The vaccine will continue to provide protection from what has been an exceptionally hard hitting flu season.”
All county health departments around the state of Oklahoma have ample supplies of flu vaccine and immunization is recommended for all, especially those in the higher risk categories of ages 1 to 5 and over age 65.
