Natural and man-made disasters can happen suddenly and at anytime. To ensure the safety of Oklahomans, our county health department works closely with state, local, tribal and community partners to plan and prepare for responses to environmental, health, and medical emergencies.

Family Emergency Plans

The Oklahoma State Department of Health provides an easy-to-use template for creating your own family emergency plan.  Start protecting your family today by downloading, printing and completing this valuable tool.  Click here to download the Family Emergency Preparedness Plan Workbook.  Be sure to discuss your family emergency preparedness plan with all of your loved ones to ensure that everyone knows what to do when disaster strikes.

Are You Ready?

FEMA has also developed a user-friendly guide to preparedness planning entitled "Are you Ready?" The guide has been designed to help the citizens learn how to protect themselves and their families against all types of hazards.  Also included is information on how to assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains the food, water and other supplies in sufficient quantity for individuals and their families to survive following a disaster in the event they must rely on their own resources.  Click here to download the guide.

Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps

The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) sponsors the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps (OKMRC) trained cadre of medical, public health, and community volunteers.  The OKMRC supplements existing response systems, and is made up of not only medical professionals but also people without a medical background.

In addition to a catastrophic health emergency, the OKMRC may also assist with:

• Disaster response
• Drills and exercises
• Preparedness and wellness education
• Public health initiatives
• Community events

OKMRC volunteers receive uniforms and state issued identification badges. Training opportunities are offered throughout the state, including First Aid/CPR, Psychological First Aid, Basic Disaster Life Support and Core Disaster Life Support.  OKMRC volunteers gain valuable response experience and are recognized at the local, state and national levels for their contributions.  For more information, or to apply for membership, go to www.okmrc.org.
