Mayes County Communicable Disease

The goal of Mayes County Health Department is to use their knowledge to recognize and prevent communicable diseases, such as food and waterborne illness, sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis and childhood diseases.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases:
• Confidential care and treatment
• Laboratory tests
• Disease investigation and follow-up of contacts
Tuberculosis Control
• Skin testing and sputum evaluation
• Disease investigation and follow-up of contacts
• Drugs dispensed for treatment of TB infection and preventive therapy
Communicable Disease:
• Disease investigation and follow-up of contacts
• Prevention and treatment
• Education

Communicable diseases spread from one person to another or from an animal to a person. The spread often happens via airborne viruses or bacteria, but also through blood or other bodily fluid. The terms infectious and contagious are also used to describe communicable disease.
