Certified Healthy Oklahoma Congregation Program
The Certified Healthy Congregation was created in 2014 to recognize all faiths that are working to improve the health of their members and/or attendees and staff by providing wellness opportunities and implementing policies that lead to healthier lifestyles. One's spiritual life is part of the healing process when experiencing conditions that affect physical health such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. As a result, congregation environment provides an excellent opportunity to promote health and wellness among members and/or attendees and staff. The program is administered by the Oklahoma Turning Point Council and the Oklahoma State Department of Health, The Center for Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion. The certification is open to congregations of all faiths and sizes. Applicants are assessed using a variety of wellness-related criteria and can be awarded basic, merit, or excellence.
