Fit Communities is a partnership between Johnston and Marshall Counties.
Both counties came together to apply for a grant from the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust.
In August 2011, the grant was awarded.
Our main goal is to change the environment to one in which living a healthy lifestyle is the norm. In future
years, we envision children walking or biking to school more
often than not, snack time to be filled with an array of fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables, work sites to allow paid breaks for their employees to be physically active, and vending machines to be filled with healthy options.
We would like all sidewalks in the community to be safe
and complete, highly functional farmers markets, and portion sizes at restaurants to return to normal size. We want to create sustainable change where we live, work, learn and play.
