Governor Stitt Instructs Commerce to Halt Weatherization Program, Directs Attorney General to Investigate

Thursday, May 21, 2026

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 21, 2026) - Governor Kevin Stitt today instructed the Oklahoma Department of Commerce to immediately halt the weatherization program administered by the Community Action Agency of Oklahoma City, and Oklahoma and Canadian Counties, Inc (CAAOKC). The action follows a forensic investigation that identified significant mismanagement and at least $663,000 in questioned or unallowable costs. The Governor also directed the Attorney General to investigate potential violations of state and federal law related to the misuse of funds.

“Taxpayer dollars are not a slush fund,” said Governor Stitt. “When state or federal funds are mismanaged, we are going to stop it, investigate it, and hold people accountable. Oklahomans deserve transparency, accountability, and a government that protects every dollar entrusted to it. I commend John Budd and Commerce for identifying the issue and acting expeditiously to protect taxpayers.”
