OCCC Gas Outage Continues

Monday, October 30, 2017

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City Community Corrections Center remained without gas service Monday, as crews were still searching for the leak that afternoon.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections staff have been able to provide the facility's more than 250 female inmates with hot meals thanks to large hotplates the department had located.

Space heaters and carbon monoxide detectors in inmates' rooms were all functioning without issue, allowing its inmates to stay warm safely.

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety has provided the showers of a nearby training facility so inmates can have hot showers.

"We are extremely grateful to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety for allowing the use of its training facility showers so our women can have showers," said Matt Elliott, DOC spokesman.

Gas service is expected to remain shut off at the facility until Wednesday, which is the earliest repairs can be completed once the leak is located.
