Facility Overview

Located in Stringtown, Mack Alford Correctional Center (MACC) was established in the 1930s as a sub-prison of Oklahoma State Penitentiary in nearby McAlester. It helped the state separate first-time convicts from OSP inmates and also provided work opportunities on the farm.

After that, the facility had stints as a sexually transmitted disease hospital, a German prisoner of war camp, and a school.

In 1956, it returned to being a farm. New fencing and towers were later added as it became a medium-security prison (named Stringtown Correctional Center in 1977). Its name was changed to that of a former warden in 1986. Today, MACC is home to more than 800 inmates.

Many inmates lack education, a key component in avoiding re-incarceration. MACC offers literacy courses as well as Pre-High School Equivalency and High School Equivalency diplomas.

College courses (not provided with state funding) are available to inmates who can pay for them, or those who have alternative funding or scholarships.

Substance Abuse Treatment

For inmates who need substance abuse treatment, MACC teaches them ways to avoid drug and alcohol use, while also helping them develop cognitive, social, emotional, and coping skills needed to avoid using.

Criminal Thinking

MACC offers Thinking for a Change, Anger Management, Victim Impact, Parenting and Live Skills programs to address thinking, judgment errors, and relationships linked with criminal thinking/behavior.

Contacting Inmates

Inmates can receive mail at any time. Include their name, DOC number and housing assignment if known in the address.

Visitation hours vary by each facility, but an inmate's security level dictates how many hours he or she may visit with approved visitors.

Important Note: All inmate visitors must submit a “Visitor Request Form." You can download a copy here, or request one from the facility. Background checks will be completed on everyone 18 or older. The inmate will notify you when the process is complete. The approval process takes approximately 8 weeks once the Visitor Request Form has been returned to MACC.

The following plan for inmate visitation is as per OP-030118.

Visitors must call the facility to schedule visits with the Visitation Coordinator between Monday at 8:00 a.m. and Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. for the week.

The following schedule will be in place until the MSU visitation building is complete and operational. Schedule will be modified accordingly.
