The Director is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the agency, including field locations and administrative functions such as personnel, training, budgeting, and overall operation of the agency. The Director is the primary contact for the Governor's office, legislators, local law enforcement agencies, other state agencies, and department of correction agencies located throughout the United States. This position provides the leadership and vision for the agency, drawing upon experience and knowledge as an administrator and the knowledge and experience of executive staff.
In 2019, the state legislature provided the governor authority to
appoint the agency’s director, formerly hired by the agency’s board. In
June 2019, Governor Kevin Stitt named ODOC’s Chief of Operations Scott
Crow as interim director. Several months later, Governor Stitt named
Crow his choice for the job. The Oklahoma Senate confirmed that
appointment in May 2020.
