HCE Email #10

HCE Email #10   4.27.20

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood and even though everyone can’t be my neighbor, you CAN read my email!!!

So, we’ve had a great week last week celebrating HOSA Virtual State Conference, visiting with teachers, researching new course ideas, sitting in Zoom meetings, etc.  And what they said would be our new normal is!

A few ideas that have been shared and that I LOVE!

  • Use tic-tok app to send lessons or even learn from people who are not hitting each other over the head….Nancy Harris has found a lab scientist who is sharing his career, along with other professionals.
  • Snapchat is also working great for lessons—because students who don’t have access to internet service can still use apps with phone data if they don’t have wifi.
  • The creativity for what is being used as clinical experience by some areas is fantastic—things I never would have thought of!

This are just a few of the reasons it’s great to get together with people who teach what you do….we are all better than any one person alone!  Let me know if you’d like to talk to your group.  For example, PN Directors meet every Wednesday at 1pm and my staff or I can facilitate or you can make it your own.

  1. Great lessons are being posted on under the CHAT feature found at the top of the page. You can enroll in any group you’d like to learn more about.
  2. If you haven’t seen the HOSA Celebration, check it out at:  Some instructors yesterday said they were going to embed an assignment (What did the speaker ask you to do?) so students would watch it! Others watched in Zoom groups.
  3. Anyone needing to register for the Long Term care workshop—It will be held on June 3 via zoom.  I haven’t set the start time yet, but we should be able to do it in a couple hours—maybe 10am-12pm.  There will be NO registration fee, but you do need to register at: :
  4. Two HOSA ILC Information Zoom meetings will be held Tuesday and Wednesday—please join whichever is more convenient for you to learn about this years’ virtual ILC:
  5. Sue Kerr, PN Instructor has posted resources for clinical replacement and is working on creating fillable forms.  This might be appropriate for some other professions as well—you may want to take a look!  It will be posted on under COVID-19 Resources.  (six documents)
  6. Community Health Worker webinar, Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at 3pm CST.  Registration is FREE and it could be an assignment for students as it’s information about what individuals and communities need to know about COVID 19:
  7. Medical Assisting Teachers are welcome to log on to a Zoom call on Wednesday, April 29th at 10am:
  8. We still need a representative for Health for the Political Action Committee, but otherwise, all our OHCETA positions have been filled! Thank you to those who make a difference by giving of your time and abilities!

Your HCE staff is working hard while sheltering in place.  We meet every morning at 9am and email/text throughout the day, so if there is anything you need or any question you have, we are here for you!  Please contact us either by phone (which Rhonda will forward to the appropriate person) or email.  We would love to hear what we could be doing to help you.

Stay safe—despite what politicians say, we know as health care professionals that until we have a vaccine or at least a whole lot more testing, the fun isn’t finished yet.
