Did You Know September 17, 2021

It’s Friday Funday and no school for 2 days!  What a week it’s been!  My truck got wrecked and it’s not even hunting season yet, and things have been crazy at the agency!  But never fear…..I didn’t forget my peeps……I’m ready for imparting some knowledge (or semi-useless facts)!!

  1. This week’s “MOST EXCITING THING” is for those of you who need to take the biological science test so that your students can get science credit for high school graduation…..we are hosting a biology study session on Thursday, October 7 from 8:30-11:30 with Starla Ewan (of hands on body systems and past bio study session fame)!  This is open to ANYONE who would like to join and the zoom information follows:      Join Zoom Meeting  Meeting ID: 882 249 1946

For those of you who register, you will also receive a professional development certificate for 3 hours that will work toward teacher certification.  We will send out a registration link within the next week, asking for your name, school and email.

  1. And many of you may be asking—where are you with the op-out of Biology test with my credentials/degrees?  Thanks for asking!  I still have people asking to “join” the list every day.  If Jeanette Furlong (our pt assistant) has sent an email to you, we know you are on the list.  See the attached list for those whose information we have and if you aren’t on the list, then we don’t have your original transcripts or copies of teaching/health care licenses.
  2. If you haven’t read the Oklahoma CareerTech Director’s Memo dated 9.13.21, you need to!  One of our very own CareerTech Champions, Kaydee Clark, is featured in this issue.  You can also see the writeup at:  Director's Memo 2021-9-13 — CareerTech (CT) -
  3. It’s getting to be a very busy time of year!  The best times usually are.  Oklahoma HOSA State Officer selection is coming right up.  If you have a member who has affiliated (joined) Ok HOSA and is interested in being an officer, check out the application packet at: B -- National Officer Application (  Officer selection will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the OK Dept. of CareerTech here in Stillwater.  By the end of the week a slate chosen and voting will occur/officers announced as part of Fall Leadership Conference held on Tuesday, Oct. 19., 2021 in Norman at the Embassy Suites hotel and conference center.
  4. Wednesday, I listened to a great webinar with the National Consortium for Health Science Education on their newest resource available for teachers!  The Work-Based Learning Guide 4.0  Work-Based Learning - National Consortium for Health Science Education (  This resource is completely revamped and identifies the many ways Perkins legislation classifies work-based learning.  It is appropriate for students in an exploratory job shadow all the way to an unsupervised internship.  Rubrics, required documentation, safety tests, orientation information, etc.  The cost is $150 for you because Oklahoma pays for a state-membership and that gives you a 25% discount on this product!  Check it out!
  5. Susie is in the process of updating for the health division, by separating out some of the MANY courses we had listed under “Health Teacher Resources”.  For example, the Biological Science course information has all new updated links to the website containing the test plan, sample tests, videos on the constructed response questions, scheduling the test, etc.  Be sure to go out to to find more resources than you can ever use!
  6. NEXT Saturday, September 25, 2021, a FREE, five, 45 minute sessions will be offered for a teacher bootcamp, sponsored by Health Science Educator’s Assn.  It’s also great for New Teachers or Teachers who Need a Jumpstart!  The flyer announcing the content can be found at: HSEA-Teacher-Boot-Camp-Sept-25-2021_2.pdf ( To register for this come-and-go mini-conference: Meeting Registration - Zoom
  7. NCHSE has also created a resource last year called Health Science Curriculum Enhancements 6.0, and the designers hosted a webinar when it was released.  THIS week, a classroom teacher who USES the resources will be sharing her experiences so you can get the down low on the product!!  Register for this Wednesday Webinar, Sept. 22, from 3-4pm CST at:
  8. The Long Term Care Workshop is coming up soon!  To be precise, Tuesday, October 5, 2021 on Zoom from 9-11:30am.  If you teach Long Term Care, work as a testing liaison, skills evaluator, adult coordinator or just want to learn more, you can attend this workshop that meets the legal requirement for Teaching Adult Learners by registering here:
  9. Interested in learning more about Anatomage?  On this site you will find links to their Anatomage e-Book which has been crosswalked to the new A & P standards and we feel is an excellent resource, especially with the “Virtual Anatomy Learning Kit”.  For More Information
  10. And for a little humor break, here are 35 Hilariously Real Tweets About Back-To-School Season!
  11. Yesterday, in the Teacher Academy meeting, I learned about an app that people are going crazy for—phrases like ‘it’s better than kahoots” was uttered more than once!  To learn more about this teachers’ MUST HAVE, go to   You can create your own “game” to review information for student testing success.  The website shares this information on how it works:  Welcome to the World of Blooket: a new take on trivia and review games!
The way it works is that a teacher/host picks a question set and a unique game mode. Then, we generate a code that players can use to join the game on their own devices. After the game starts, players will answer questions to help them win. That’s where the fun starts, because we offer a variety of games to keep students engaged and excited!  How it works:  Choose a question set (yours or ours), select a game mode, host and join on personal or classroom resources, play to review, and analyze the results by detailed score reports, letting you know what needs to be reviewed again!
  12. Free "Virtual Internship" Student Webinar!
Do you need virtual career experiences for students? Join Rubin for a free *live* webinar about careers in medicine with a pediatric neurologist from a leading children's hospital in Virginia. Date: Wednesday, September 22 at 1:30 pm ET/10:30 am PT. Space is limited -- RSVP today!
  13. The NAHCA—membership organization for Nurse Aides, is offering a webinar for teachers/students on September 29, at 3pm on “Bridging the Generational Gap” which is so important in nursing homes where four to five different generations may work.  Register here:  Webinar Registration - Zoom
  14. Here is a powerful note-taking app for Students!  NoteLedge is a digital notebook that allows you to visualize your thoughts and organize your notes in a single place. It offers three helpful functionalities that enable you to captureorganize, and create new ideas and inspiration. Students can use it to curate content from the web by clipping images, text, and/or screenshots and add their notes to clipped content. They can also clip videos from popular video hosting services such as YouTube and Vimeo and annotate them the way they want.
  15. My post from facebook this week—love this idea!  (not my original thought)  In Denmark, there are libraries where you can borrow a person instead of a book to listen to their life story for 30 minutes.  The goal is to fight prejudice.  Each personal has a title—“unemployed”, “refugee”, “bipolar”, etc.—but listening to their story you realize how much you shouldn’t “judge a book by it’s cover”  This innovative project is active in 85+ countries.  It is called the Human Library.

I  hope you have a safe and happy weekend!  Friday is the best day of the week for me because the possibilities of the weekend ahead are endless.  Of course, it all happens too fast, but this is me reminding myself to enjoy it!!
