The North American Industry Classification System(NAICS) codes are the identifying numbers used by the federal government to identify and classify companies by industry for the purpose of collecting, analyzing and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy.
Each opportunity that is issued by a federal agency is assigned at least one N AICS code. Understanding and utilizing the appropriate NAICS codes are important when registering as a federal contractor at SAM.gov, also to determine the
size standard for small business set asides and when using public sites to determine listed awards of the competition.
