New Online Scheduling System Expected to Improve Wait Time

OKLAHOMA CITY – March 25, 2013 – Thanks to the new online scheduling system, Inline/Online, visiting one of Oklahoma’s Driver License offices is about to get easier. Beginning March 26 with the Southwest Oklahoma City Driver License office on I-240, the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (DPS) is piloting this new service along with six additional Oklahoma City and Tulsa Metro locations.

“We realize there is a problem. We know the public is frustrated with long wait times at DL testing sites across Oklahoma.” said DPS Commissioner, Michael C. Thompson. “We understand the frustration and are very hopeful that Inline/Online will help to reduce wait times and make our process more efficient for the public.”

Inline/Online is an online scheduling system that gives patrons the opportunity to reserve appointments online and avoid the inconvenience of waiting in line on a first-come-first-serve basis. Drivers choose an appointment type and time based on availability at their desired location, and can anticipate being in-and-out of the Driver License office within an hour of arrival.

The pilot consists of a systematic rollout of seven locations in an attempt for DPS to appropriately assess the needs of each facility.  The launch dates and for each location pilot are:

  • Oklahoma City Southwest – March 26
  • Edmond –  March 26
  • Yukon –  March 28
  • Norman –  March 28
  • Tulsa Eastgate –  April 4
  • West Tulsa –  April 11
  • Broken Arrow –  April 11

Online appointments will be available at each location on the pilot date in 15-minute intervals beginning at 8:00 a.m. to 4: 00 p.m. and are subject to availability. During the pilot period, it is free to schedule appointments utilizing Inline/Online.

Thompson said DPS has plans to expand Inline/Online over the next year to include all Oklahoma Driver license locations across the state. The department also hopes to, based upon funding, include a queuing system that will give real time estimates of wait-times at Driver License offices and the distance between the user’s current location and the DL office of choice.
